How do I calculate turnover rate?

Multiply your pump's flow rate in GPM by 60 and by daily run hours to get gallons circulated per day, then divide by pool volume. The result is turnovers per day. Dividing volume by gallons-per-hour gives hours per single turnover.

My turnover is low — do I need a bigger pump?

Not necessarily. First try running the existing pump longer, which raises turnover without new equipment or higher flow velocity. Only consider a larger or variable-speed pump if extended run time still can't hit your target or if your plumbing already limits flow.

Why does turnover rate matter?

Turnover determines how often all the water passes through the filter and gets fresh sanitizer distribution.
