Calm adult swimming loses about half a gallon per person per hour, while energetic kids' play can lose around three gallons per person per hour. Over a busy season it adds up, but for most pools splash-out is smaller than evaporation.

But for heavily used pools, especially with children playing, splash-out becomes a meaningful slice.
