Why is accurate pool volume important?

Pool volume is the foundation of every chemical calculation. An error of 20% in your volume estimate means every dose of chlorine, acid, or calcium you add is off by 20% — which throws the entire water balance out.

How do I convert gallons to litres?

Multiply US gallons by 3.78541. For example, 20,000 gal × 3.785 = 75,708 liters. Our calculator shows this automatically in the results panel.

What if my pool has an irregular floor?

For multiple depth transitions, break the pool into zones, calculate each zone's volume separately, and sum them. Use our Freeform estimator for non-standard floors.

How long does it take to fill a pool?

Fill time = Volume ÷ Fill rate. A standard 3/4-inch garden hose runs at about 9 GPM. A 20,000-gallon pool takes roughly 37 hours continuously.

Does water temperature affect volume?

Yes, but only slightly. Water expands about 0.0115% per degree F. Heating a 20,000-gal pool from 60F to 85F expands it by about 58 gallons — negligible for most purposes.

Use a fibreglass measuring rod or a weighted string. Measure at the deepest and shallowest points of the water — not from the coping. For sloped floors, take readings every 2 ft and average them.
